The Shoot2Shoot community is growing to include photographers from around the globe which is really exciting!  Social Media and the internet in general is an incredible tool that allows us to make connections with those that are thousands of miles away.  Yogendra is looking to gain a lot of experience by second shooting more and is really hopeful that the S2S directory will soon include India.  We will work really hard to make that possible for him and others looking to connect in his area.  With that, today’s S2S Spotlight goes to Yogendra :)

S2S:  Tell us about you and your photography business:

I am Yogendra N Joshi from Mumbai, India. Country of billions of people where you find so many different religions and sects and thus so many different traditions and rituals. I am the sole owner of my wedding photography business named “Weddings With Style” (http://www.facebook.com/WeddingsWityStyle). I primarily provide candid wedding photography services to couples in and around India as well as outside of India. I am totally a client’s man! Talking to them, interviewing them as to what their requirements are, how they came to know about my services and how I could make their biggest day even better with my skillful photography techniques is all part of the business for me. As part of the business portfolio,  I offer:

1. Pre-Wedding couple shoots at a location of their choice.
2. Bridals
3. Dress Up’s
4. Make-up’s
5. All Pre-Wedding Events

All of the above services are provided with High Quality Durable Albums along with all the data back-up on my external personal hard-drive which makes sure the clients pictures are never lost no matter what!
S2S:  How did you get your start in photography and how did you learn?

Photography was always something I loved as an art and getting into photography business happened to me when I got chance to shoot at one of my friend’s wedding. She was kind enough to give me an opportunity to photograph her wedding in a candid & natural way as she had hired an traditional “Smile Please” photographer who would not take pictures of the wedding in documentary style, which I totally loved to do!  She knew I was not professional and I had nothing to lose which gave me enough confidence and flexibility at her wedding to move around but I made sure that the pictures which I clicked were in such a way that my friend was able re-live the wedding when she saw all the pictures. She included some of my pictures into her wedding album which was again kind of her and an achievement for myself. After that wedding, there was no looking back and I have been shooting a lot now-a-days. Though my photography business is not restricted to weddings, wedding photography remains my first love.

About the learning, It all started when I bought my first Nikon DSLR and being a techie I was able to learn very quick and I follow a lot of photography sites like http://digital-photography-school.com/ which helped me learn quicker and further helped me put my theory into practice. Another area about learning is “Second Shooting”. I have worked with many photographers in India where I again learned a lot through their assignments, especially weddings, birthdays, engagements.

S2S:  Do you second shooters that work with you now?
Yes. I do.  Most of the times I shoot alone, while at times with second shooters helping me  out when I have a bigger event to cover which is spread across multiple-days.
S2S:  Are you looking to second shoot more even though you have now shot as a primary?  If so, why? (great answer!)
Totally! Second Shooting is all networking, meeting more people, learning the style of other experienced photographers and thus improve on the skills which aren’t currently in myself. It becomes a win-win situation where I help out a pro to cover a bigger wedding while learning some newer techniques from them and share some good ones which I’ve got. I would really love to get in touch with a lot of wedding photographers from Mumbai or India to shoot a lot more weddings :)
S2S:  What do you find is your biggest challenge right now?
My biggest challenge as of now is getting my work featured so that more and more people know about my services. Apart from that, I have been trying hard to get a lot of attention through my work on Facebook and other sites which possibly might get some help in my business. I am working actively towards the marketing of my business.
S2S:  Do you find it difficult to connect with other photographers to gain shooting experience?
Yes, Its difficult to connect fast to shooters in India as there is no central directory like Shoot2Shoot which helps connect Second Shooters. I want to gain experience and work with professional photographers to learn new techniques and share my own, just need a medium like S2S to get through it.
S2S:  What is your favorite thing about being a photographer?
My favorite thing about being a photographer is showing people the way I want to see the world. Every human is different and through my photography, I want to show them how I see this beautiful world and show them my art. It makes me feel really nice and fresh when I come back from a photography session with my clients as photography is my passion.
S2S:  Have a funny story to share? (this is hilarious!)
Oh yeah.. Sometime back when I went to groom’s house for shooting his dress-up’s in the morning time, he was too anxious and in excitement he forgot to wear his lower part of the sherwani (Traditional Indian Trouser) and asked me if we were ready to shoot. I burst out laughing and said let me get you through the mirror :-) and then he was like OMG..! That was really funny moment but a very generous client.
S2S:  What resources do you wish you had more available to you so you can continue to learn your craft?
A way to connect to more photographers and some good rental shops for expensive lenses which I can rent out for a month so I get feel of the lens and decide if investing in it would be worth it.
Thank you Yogendra for taking time to chat with us and share your love of photography!  If you are looking for a second shooter that clearly is passionate about what he does, reach out to Yogendra if you are near him.  (http://www.facebook.com/WeddingsWityStyle)
